• A new report finds that the market for sinus dilation devices is expected to grow by almost 3 billion dollars between 2021 and 2030.
• That figure represents a compound annual growth rate of 10.8% from 2022 to 2030.
• Sinus dilation devices are used in balloon sinuplasty, which is quick and comfortable when compared to older sinus surgeries.

A report published by Globe Newswire said that the market for sinus dilation devices — which are used to treat chronic sinusitis through balloon sinuplasty procedures — is expected to grow from $1.9 billion in 2021 to $4.78 billion by 2030.

“Say someone comes in with a very significant problem, and maybe they’ve had it for a decade or seen four other specialists,” Dr. Robert Weiss of CT ENT Sinus Center told Litchfield Hills Today. “Maybe they’ve tried all this medicine that doesn’t quite make it go away. We have treatment protocols and technologies that we are using in many instances, and I tell patients that our success rate on a lot of this technology can be as high as 90 or 95%. But you’ve got someone who has dealt with a problem for a long time, and they just haven’t gotten the alignment with the right specialist or the right technology, and when they finally do, and they go through it and recover and have that success, it’s very rewarding.”

Chronic sinusitis is incredibly common, and doctors are increasingly relying on balloon sinuplasty procedures to treat it because they are minimally invasive and highly effective. Procedures that use a balloon to dilate the sinuses are safe, effective and a great treatment option for patients who have struggled to manage their sinusitis with medication alone.

The report also predicted that medical companies such as Stryker will continue to work on improving their sinus dilation devices, which will, in turn, generate higher demand for them.

According to Mayo Clinic, chronic sinusitis is common in both adults and children, and it occurs when the sinus lining is inflamed for three months or longer. The inflammation can lead to symptoms such as congestion, discharge, postnasal drainage, facial pain, facial pressure, headaches, earaches, sore throat and fatigue. Asthma and allergy sufferers are more likely to develop chronic sinusitis, and those who have been experiencing the aforementioned symptoms for over ten days are encouraged to see a doctor.

According Eisemann Plastic Surgery Center, a typical balloon sinuplasty procedure takes only 10 to 15 minutes, with patients typically recovering within one to two days. Most patients can continue to engage in their normal activities during that time period, although they may also experience some swelling for up to a week. During the procedure, an ear, nose and throat (ENT) physician will insert a small balloon into the patient’s sinus and inflate it until the sinus reaches its optimal size. This allows for any blockages to drain from the sinus passages, which are then flushed with a saline solution to remove any remaining bacteria or mucus.
