Town Of Winchester issued the following announcement on March 30.
At a Special Meeting held on Tuesday, March 29th at Town Hall, the Water Sewer Commission approved a sewer rate increase, the first since 2017. The increase will function to fund sewer system infrastructure improvements, preventive maintenance, and increased operating costs. The following rates will increase as of August 1, 2022: quarterly meter base rate, quarterly fixture base rate, quarterly fixture fee, and quarterly low-pressure grinder pump maintenance fee. A Public Hearing, held in person, broadcast to Cable Channel 194, and live-streamed to the Town's YouTube channel, was held on the rate increases on Thursday, March 24th.
The charge for basic sewer meters is determined by the meter size. Meters sized at 5/8” and 3/4”, with a current charge of $50 per quarter, will be increased to $100 per quarter, to be phased in over five years. Meters sized at 1”, 1.5”, 2”, 3”, and 4”, with a current charge of $92.50 per quarter, will be increased to $185, to be phased in over five years.
A basic fixture, currently with a $68 charge per quarter, will rise to $136 per quarter, with the increase to be phased in over five years. The fixture service costs, currently levied with a $12 per count charge, will rise to $24 per count, effective as of August 1, 2022.
Additionally, beginning in August, the Water Sewer Commission will initiate a $25 charge, per quarter, for sewer system owned grinder pumps only.
Please note that there is no increase scheduled for the capital recovery fee. The fee of $10 per quarter will remain.
